A possibility of a software quality estimation becomes a necessity as the software costs gradually increase. Quality measurement methods are being sought in accordance with customer’s and developer’s needs. These methods may contribute to an improvement of the quality of the delivered software product. Quantitative methods are regarded as most useful apart from widely used descriptive ones. A repetitive application of the above methods will allow us to get credible coefficients of validity of quality criteria that are at issue. The existing models of software quality were compared. A need of supplementing the above models with a lacking aspects of quality was noticed in the existing models. A multicriterial model of the software product was proposed because of a collective character of the quality. The process of audit of the software quality was described on the basis of methods applied in an engineering of the quality A method of quantifying the states of criteria and a method of graduating the validity of criteria were also presented. The procedure has been illustrated by means of an example. The selection of proper criteria and attributes as essential difficulties in use of quantitative methods as well as the possibility of executing measurements of these attributes have been included.category of quality, criterion, measure, model, validity

The aim of this paper is to present selected models of a Software Development Life Cycle as a set of possible alternatives. The article also includes the characteristics of IT projects which are used as the basis for selection criteria, according to which an appropriate model should be chosen. These characteristics are divided into two groups; one of them deals with the product, the other one deals with the project. Based on both a literature study and statistical surveys, a list of criteria is derived, to be later applied in the process of developing a knowledge-based system. The rules and search algorithms for selecting the best models are described by a flowchart. Finally, the method of presentation and the interpretation of the results are discussed.algorithm, knowledge base, sequential model, evolutionary model, IT project, selection criteria, risk, project complexity
